In August 2005 swimmers from around the world transcended themselves again by swimming the length of the lake of Zurich in Switzerland: 26.4 km.
The Self-Transcendence Marathon Swim was organized for the 18th time, attracting 17 solo-swimmers and 20 relay teams with 3 members each. It was again amazing to watch the swimmers to conquer pain, fatigue and wave turbulance in order to achieve their goal.
First among the solo-swimmers was 37-year-old Toni Pavicic-Donkic from Zurich, with a time of 6 hours and 41 minutes. Best woman solo-swimmer was Sandra Albrecht (34) from Germany, with a time of 7:26. Among the teams the "Rank Outsiders," with members from New Zealand, Australia and United Kingdom, got the first prize with 6:18.
The Marathon Swim in Zurich is a yearly event, increasing in popularity among ultra-distance swimmers. The 19th Swim is planned for August 6th, 2006.
Enjoy the atmosphere of 2005 in this new 4 min clip.
