It was one of Sri Chinmoy’s wishes to have regular Masters Games in athletics to allow competitions in sports for people over 40, 50, 60, 70 or even 80. Hutashan Heer was the main coordinator and these are the highlights of the first event that took place in the year 1994 in Zurich.

Sri Chinmoy himself participated in the World Masters Games, and spoke about the benefits of encouraging older people to take part in athletics.

“Most of the time, elderly people feel that they are finished products, that their life is over. So they don’t have any hope or promise. But the Masters Games show us that elderly people can have hope and promise. It shows that elderly people can become inseparably one with children, with the new generation.”
