Sri Chinmoy is a unique weightlifter. He took up weightlifting when he was over 50 years old. Now in his 75th year Sri Chinmoy is still setting new records and still developing new types of lifts. Sri Chinmoy is not just a weightlifter though, his weightlifting is an integral part of his spiritual life. He lifts not out of competition, but to try and inspire others. Sri Chinmoy is also trying to show the power of prayer and meditation in our own life.

” My weightlifting is my prayer-life
To inspire my sisters and brothers
Of the entire world.”

A prayerful message for television

My physical weightlifting-journey ends,
But my spiritual God-crying-journey
Shall never end.

Sri Chinmoy offered this final prayerful message as he concluded his weightlifting endeavours since resuming weightlifting on 29 September 1998. During this period of two years and fifteen days, he has offered 1,307 prayers.

If we are in the heart
Of God-consciousness,
Then we are definitely
Lifting up
The burden of the world.

Weighlifting Prayer

5 April 1999  5:43 a.m.

Before using standing
double-arm machine
up to 160 lbs.
with both arms simultaneously

My Supreme, my Supreme, my Supreme!
I must realise
That if I do not forgive
My enemies,
Then I shall lose You
As my Friend,
Specially as my only Friend.
My Supreme, my Supreme, my Supreme!
