In this interview at the University of Vermont in the 1970’s, Sri Chinmoy explains the meaning of the Sanskrit word ‘yoga’. In essence, Yoga means “union with God” – and through the disciplines of yoga a spiritual seeker makes a conscious effort to gain a glimpse of his Ultimate Source.

“So we have to value the spiritual life. And, in order to value the spiritual life, we have to be conscious of the spiritual life. I have to be conscious of you first, as a professor. Then, I have to value your wisdom, the vast wisdom that you have. Then, if I value your wisdom, then only I can come to your source… so yoga starts with conscious oneness with the Reality, with the Supreme Source…”
